Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev paid an official visit to the UAE from March 24-26, 2019. The UAE with a sovereign wealth fund of USD 800 billion is a valuable economic partner for the cash strapped and doubly landlocked Central Asian country.
The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived on September 30, 2018 on his first official visit to India. This visit came soon after the visit of Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to Uzbekistan, as part of her visit to the Central Asian Region.
The Eurasian Economic Union, started in 2015 by Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan, followed by Armenia and Kyrgyzstan, is now acknowledged as one of the world’s major blocs organized for intra-regional cooperation and trade.
The stilted evolution of democracy in Afghanistan has been further affected by the existence and proliferation of competing centers of power outside the scope of the constitution. Parallel structures of governance have impacted the overall democratic structure adversely.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who has been Uzbekistan’s prime minister since 2003, was elected by the Uzbek parliament to serve as acting President until presidential elections are held in December 2016, of which he will be one of the candidates.
